7 MORE tips for presenting online with Energy + Presence

7 MORE tips for presenting online with presence and energy in 2 minutes flat.

After hundreds of people watched my last 2-minute video on presenting online with confidence, I made a second 2-minute video with 7 more tips you can put to good use right away. They are:

  1. STAND UP. You’ll have so much more energy. To stand easily, place your computer on a standing desk or a big cardboard box. Just make sure your camera lens is at eye level.

  2. BREATHE. Now that you’re standing, you can breathe deeper. This will relax you and in turn, relax your audience.

  3. SMILE, JUST A LITTLE. When people get nervous, they tend to look grim. To avoid this, try a slight smile—like how you imagine the Buddha or the Mona Lisa might smile. Not big. Just subtle.

  4. WARM UP YOUR PERFORMANCE. If you want to give a warmer performance, imagine your best friend is sitting in the camera lens and tell your story to them.

  5. ASK YOUR AUDIENCE QUESTIONS. To engage your audience, ask participants questions and pause to give them a moment to answer. If you keep your presentation conversational, your audience will be more likely to stay alert and engaged.

  6. CALL THEM BY NAME. Your audience will sit up straighter if you address them by name. So, as you answer a question or respond to a note in the chat, use the name of the person you’re responding to.

  7. GET NON-REFLECTIVE GLASSES. As soon as I can leave the house, I’m buying myself a pair of non-reflective reading glasses. That way, my audience will be able to see my eyes when I’m wearing glasses. There’s nothing more powerful than looking your audience in the eye—especially in the virtual world.
