Each workshop I teach is customized to meet the needs of the sponsoring organization and participants. The format can be a one-time event, a multi-session class with homework between meetings, and can include one-on-one consultations with each student.
Grant Writing for Success
In this hands-on workshop individual artists learn how to write grant applications with passion and clarity. Participants explore how to decode application questions, employ good grant writing habits and engage other people in the writing process.
Topics covered include:
- Brainstorming methods for generating the first draft
- Ten editing tips to strengthen the final draft
- Techniques for finding fresh and compelling language to describe a project
- Strategies of successful grant writers
Each participant brings a draft of an application, bio, and any other writing about the project (like newspaper reviews or an artist statement) and starts writing that next proposal in this workshop.

The Art of Presentation
It's time to come out from behind the desk or easel and meet the audience. In this hands-on workshop, writers and artists learn 10 tips for speaking in public or reading work aloud, whether to one person or to an auditorium of listeners. In addition, they discover how to make presentations with confidence, enjoy the limelight and connect with an audience. Attendees arrive with up to five pages of writing to read or photographs of artwork.
Actors & Writers Laboratory
Each writer submits a recent script or screenplay and scripts are read aloud by professional actors in front of a live audience of friends and colleagues. In this lively, collaborative setting, writers receive moderated feedback from the audience and actors and discover what works. Writers leave this learning laboratory with constructive comments to launch them into the next draft.
When I listened to the actors read my script I learned what to cross off, what to add, and why. I never had so much fun in my life! Gigi pulled off this event in such a positive manner and the affirmation she gave us for our work is priceless.

Individual Consultations & Grant Writing Coaching
Consultations include one-on-one coaching on writing an artist statement, proposal or grant application. The process includes a written review and a telephone working session. Rate is $50/hour.
